we must learn to enjoy the variety rather than seeking to change others into an extension of ourselves.

i have this problem.

this problem where.... i hold myself to a fairly high standard of living.

i pride myself on my financial independence,
my cleanliness, my conscious employment of proper grammar.

and... i'm easily angered or embarrassed by people who don't care that other people have spent thousands of dollars on their behalf, or who don't vaccuum regularly, or who don't know that "irregardless" isn't a word.

if someone texts me something to the effect of "hey how r u doin? i wuz wonderin if your goin to that party cuz i need a ride"....

you can bet your bottom dollar that i'm judging you.

but something that i've realized is that it's not fair for me to judge people on my own standard. that's how i want to live... just because other people don't live that way doesn't make them bad people.

just because someone hasn't paid their way on a vacation or even a meal in their entire adult life doesn't mean they're moochers. (well, yes it does. but...) it just means they've found a loophole, they've rigged the system. they don't have to spend any money, AND clearly don't give a damn about what others think of them. what a way to live!

just because someone doesn't comet out their sink or soft scrub their toilets or vaccuum or dust doesn't make them disguisting people. it just means they are comfortable in more environments than I am.

and JUST BECAUSE someone says "as a pose to" instead of "as opposed to" doesn't mean they're stupid. it just means they probably haven't thought that far into the weird phrases we sometimes use in our language.

so... this entire rant sums up to the fact that i'm judgemental, but not in the way most Utahans are. i don't care if you did your home teaching or saw a movie on sunday. i don't care if you have tattoos or a beard.* i don't care if you aren't married at 25 or didn't go on a mission or drink caffeine.

i just care if you're making a conscious effort to be a good person.

and apparently my standards for "good person" are far too stringent, so... i'm working on it.

*i actually prefer that you have a beard.
