today, the most disappointing thing happened to me.
as i was hum-drumming around for something to occupy my time (because, i mean, who works?), i looked at my work phone, and saw that it was 2:22.
2:22!!
With an exessive amount of excitment, I touched the phone, kissed my fingers, and threw them into the air.
just as i was about to make my wish, i looked at my work computer, and saw that it also displayed 2:22. So i touched the screen, kissed my fingers, and threw them into the air.
i thought, i can use all the luck i can get, so i clicked on my cell phone, saw that it was 2:22, and reached for it smugly, knowing how i was going to have the luckiest day, what with three wishes in my pocket.
and then, just as i laid my fingers on my phone, the clock changed to 2:23. and we all know it's bad luck to wish on any time which does not contain all identical digits. (some people would make an exception for 10:10, but i do not, because i actually know things about luck and clock-wishes and follow the rules devoutely.)
panicked, i looked back to the computer clock to cleanse my fingers of the tainted time and regain my wish. to my horror, the computer screen blared "2:23."
i whipped my head to my work phone, the one on whom i knew i could rely, and saw it again. "2:23."
no clocks ever work in complete synchronicity. some clocks are 10 minutes apart (for us who have trouble with punctuality,) others just 10 seconds.
but these clocks. they worked in perfect tandum. the one time in my life that i prayed for a few seconds difference so as to have just one small piece of hope and luck, my clocks betrayed me.
how cruel.
