friday song and the way our lives devolve

these last few months have been weird.

not bad, not good. just... weird.

i'm spring cleaning my life.
i deleted like 600 people off facebook, 20 people from my phone book, all my old messages and photos, and, obviously, scrubbed the shit out of my apartment.

and i feel... the same.
so. there's that.

friday playlist

codex - radiohead
sail - awolnation
fortune teller - forest fire
too late - m83
islands - the xx

there are a few repeats here, and these songs don't necessarily correlate well together, but they've been on repeat for me all week. just trying to assuage - or maybe supplement - the crushing weight of... life?

friday playlist

here's to a carefree weekend, and to me hopefully getting back on the friday playlist ball...

houdini - foster the people
happy up here - royksopp

friday song

i'm totally slacking on friday playlists lately, sorryyy.

i've been moving into my new apartment, yay!, but it's way stressful, boo.

anyway, this song is one of those that sneaks into your soul, eviscerates your insides, and leaves you heaving on the floor going "holy shit."

enjoy.

monday playlist. it's my blog, i do what i want.

this weekend, my sister and i drove out to colorado for some family festivities. unfortunately, the instant we arrived, death befell my very soul and i spent the majority of the weekend in bed or in the bath (random side note--don't most tubs have a slanted back so you can recline? not my parents. straight up and down. miserable.)

we were able to make hot chocolate and eat soup and watch christmas movies, however, so i think it was still a fine weekend.

here's a little playlist to get you jazzed for the christmas season!!

i want a hippopotamus for christmas - gayla peevey
white christmas - the drifters
the christmas song - nat king cole
have yourself a merry little christmas - frank sinatra
sleigh ride - the ronettes

my mom collects these totally creepy elves
that are design-y, i guess,
but they're scary.
also they're 50 bucks each, so...

friday playlist

i'm feeling a lot the way i was a few weeks ago. what is going on!

i went to my doctor to ask about some sleeping and stomache issues i've been having for the last, oh, few years. and nothing! healthy as a horse!! that should be good news, but i want to know why i'm feeling so crappy.

anyway, here's a playlist for a slow but hopeful weekend.

if i had a boat - james vincent mcmorrow
holocene - bon iver
the mistress witch from mcclure - sufjan stevens
the world spins madly on - the weepies
heartbeats - jose gonzales*

*same song i recommended a few weeks ago, but a totally different take!

friday playlist

i've been feeling inexplicably melancholy for the last week or so.

i always get in heavy boots* around this time of year. even though it's my favorite season... i must be a masochist.

anyway, here's a little playlist for a sluggish, pensive weekend.

intro - the xx
trials of the past - sbtrkt
forest fire - fortune teller
shells of silver - the japanese popstars
whispering wind - moby

friday playlist

do you ever feel like it would be nice to just... not exist?

sometimes, my favorite thing is to take a bath in the dark, and submerge my ears or whole head, eliminating all stimuli, and pretend like i'm floating in a vast abyss of nothingness.

it sounds kind of dark and depressing, but it helps me recenter.

here's a playlist for a weekend of relaxation, recentering, and nothingness.

freedom blade - this will destroy you
slow motion (instrumental) - third eye blind*
remember me as a time of day - explosions in the sky
i guess i'm floating - m83
heysatan - sigur ros

*the original version is really, really good,
but the lyrics contain a lot of... graphic material.
i recommend the instrumental. it's really beautiful.

friday playlist

you know how i'm not really a fan of love.

but lately i've been feeling all sappy and lovey (it's grey's anatomy, i tell you!) and while i'm not looking for it for myself, i can't help but feel giddy for all the people around me heading into this colder season with a partner.

here's to a chilly, romantic weekend.

postcards from far away - coldplay
such great heights - iron & wine
andrea - joe purdy
no one's gonna love you - band of horses
skinny love - bon iver

friday playlist

something about this time of year makes me feel so content. it also makes me feel like crying. in a good way, you know?

it just makes me want to go on a long, directionless drive in the rain, heat blasting, music playing, where i can cry and think and just be.

here's a little playlist should you have the urge to drive and cry and be.

reckoner - radiohead
brothers on a hotel bed - death cab for cutie
redford (for yia-yia and pappou) - sufjan stevens
eet - regina spektor
too late - m83

oh, the things i wouldn't do...)

friday playlist

fall is my favorite season.

i say that at the beginning of every season.

but at the beginning of fall, i feel it a little more. my heart swells a bit, my body sets into the motions of my life, and i feel settled, complete. yes, fall is my favorite. but only by a little.

anyway, i am happy it's fall. i'm aching for knit tights and hot cider and crisp, acoustic music.

speaking of, (finally) here's to a weekend dedicated to new beginnings and adorable boots!

domestic scene - the radio dept.
surgery - joe purdy
longer i run - peter bradley adams
forever - ben harper
