too many inanimate objects in my apartment have names. helen the air conditioner; owlie, roger, and frederick the owl triplets; walter the cupboard; betsey the ceiling fan; melvin the blow-up dog; harold the couch; alex the desktop fan (little bastard); and the beard, or beardie for short, the pillow.
